2022 GMC HUMMER EV Pairs Incredible Capability, Zero Emissions

GMC HUMMER EV Pairs Incredible Capability, Zero Emissions

“Quiet Revolution” campaign featuring LeBron James telegraphs GMC’s future with its first all-electric truck

GMC has introduced the GMC HUMMER EV, bringing bold design and remarkable capability to the electrified vehicle space.

The spot juxtaposes the staggering anticipated performance metrics of GMC’s first all-electric truck with the remarkable quietness inherent in the operation of an electric vehicle.

The GMC HUMMER EV truck will showcase the GMC brand’s design and engineering potential, and will feature:

  • 1,000 horsepower
  • 11,500 lb-ft of torque
  • 0 to 60 mph in 3 seconds

“GMC builds premium and capable trucks and SUVs and the GMC HUMMER EV takes this to new heights,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global Buick and GMC. “We are excited to debut our revolutionary zero-emissions truck during the biggest night in TV advertising.”

“Teaming up with GMC to introduce the Hummer EV is a natural fit. Everyone knows about my love for Hummer since high school and I’m proud to be a part of announcing the new EV model,” said LeBron James. “The truck may be quiet, but the performance numbers speak for themselves.”

The 30-second TV spot featuring James aired during the fourth quarter of the big game in Canada. The spot highlights the anticipated performance of GMC’s all-electric super truck, which will generate remarkable metrics in terms of horsepower, torque and acceleration while providing incredible on- and off-road capability. All of this is combined with the vastly reduced noise and zero emissions inherent in the operation of an electric vehicle.

The GMC HUMMER EV will be revealed on May 20, 2020 and built in Michigan at General Motors’ Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant.

Your friends at Western GMC Buick will share updates as they become available!

Google Technology and Services as GM’s Future In-Vehicle Technology

Google Technology and Services as GM’s Future In-Vehicle Technology

Building on nearly 25 years of connectivity leadership, General Motors announced yesterday plans to introduce new in-vehicle technology that will enhance the overall customer experience and make it easier than ever for customers to bring their digital lives into future connected vehicles.

GM's research shows that many customers prefer an embedded technology experience in the vehicle, and increasingly expect seamless integration between the tech in their hands and the tech in their vehicle. Listening to customer feedback, GM will work with Google to bring new options for a voice assistant, embedded navigation, and in-vehicle applications to compatible Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac vehicles in regions around the world beginning in 2021. Broad deployment across all GM vehicle brands is expected to roll out in the years following.

Future GM infotainment systems will continue to be powered by Android, which enables GM to bring familiar and enhanced experiences from Google to the vehicle:

  • Voice Assistant: With the built-in Google Assistant, drivers can make the most of their time in the vehicle and easily get things done hands-free using just their voice. Drivers can use the Assistant to make calls or text a friend, play a favorite radio station or podcast, close the garage door (requires compatible smart home devices), or even change the temperature in the vehicle, all while keeping their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel. The Assistant integration will continue to evolve over time, so that drivers in the future will be able to simply use their voice to engage with their vehicle, which could include renewing their OnStar or Connected Services plans, checking on their tire pressure, scheduling service, and more.

  • Embedded Navigation: Google Maps in the vehicle is constantly up to date and helps drivers navigate with real-time traffic information, automatic re-routing and lane guidance. With the Assistant, drivers can use voice to navigate home, share their ETA, find the nearest gas station and EV charging stations (based on availability), or ask about a store's hours without needing a phone.
  • In-Vehicle Applications: The Google Play store lets drivers find their favorite apps and services, designed specifically for in-vehicle use. Drivers can listen to the same albums, podcasts and audiobooks in the vehicle as at home and stay connected with their most important contacts on communication apps.

While using Google applications and services, the driver must always remain attentive. Additional services and data may be required. Full feature details will be available closer to launch.

At Western GMC Buick, we're proud to share this announcement from General Motors with our valued customers and look forward to the implementation of the exciting technology to follow!

2020 Buick Enclave Adds New Tech, Style and a Back Massage

2020 Buick Enclave

New Tech, Style and a Back Massage

Buick’s flagship seven-passenger SUV enters the 2020 model year with style and tech updates highlighted by a new Sport Touring package, a bold, monochromatic take on Enclave style that radiates confidence. The ST package features a unique Sport grille with body-color surround and 20-inch bright machined aluminum wheels with contrasting Satin Graphite pockets and is available on the Enclave Essence trim level.

Powered by Buick’s 3.6L V-6 engine delivering an SAE-certified 310 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque, the 2020 Enclave delivers spirited performance fitting of the Sport Touring’s flowing exterior design.

The 2020 Enclave features updates for added comfort, as well as convenience technology that includes Buick’s next generation infotainment system. This new 8-inch diagonal touchscreen comes standard on all trim levels and offers features such as available connected navigation. The system is capable of supporting SiriusXM with 360L (if equipped), which combines satellite and streaming to deliver more channels and content to Buick drivers and their passengers. Other new tech additions include available new HD Rear Vision Camera and HD Surround Vision systems and a new, four-way power lumbar seat adjuster with a driver and front passenger massage feature that is standard on the Premium and Avenir models.

The upscale Enclave Avenir gets a sleeker appearance for model year 2020 with a lower panel that matches the rest of the exterior, creating a harmonious look. Three new exterior colors round out the updates: Champagne Gold Metallic, Rich Garnet Metallic (Avenir only) and Dark Moon Blue Metallic.

The 2020 Buick Enclave starts at $49,998 (including destination freight charge, excluding tax, title, license and dealer fees) and will arrive in dealerships later this summer.

6 Levels of Driving Automation

6 Levels of Driving Automation

The thought of self-driving vehicles is both exciting and terrifying, but not all automated vehicles are created equal. The industry has adopted these 6 levels of driving automation, as outlined by SAE International.

No driving automation: The human drives. The vehicle may have features such as automatic emergency braking or blind-spot warning, but the human remains in control of the dynamic driving task.

Driver assistance: The human drives. The vehicle provides steering or brake/acceleration support, such as lane centering or adaptive cruise control.

Partial driving automation: The human is responsible for vehicle operations. The vehicle provides both steering and brake/acceleration support.

Conditional automation: The human and robot can exchange responsibility for the driving task. The vehicle can drive itself under limited conditions, but the human must take over on request.

High driving automation: The robot does all the driving, but with certain restrictions, such as robotaxis that are limited to operating in a geo-fenced area.

Full driving automation: The robot does all the driving, everywhere, and in all conditions.

What are your thoughts? What level of driving automation would you be comfortable with?  Visit our Facebook Page and drop your Western Team a message!
